Happy first Friday of 2023!!! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules and I'm so excited to share this latest pair of cards featuring the NEW Background of the Month for January 2023: Old News. This new background stamp is giving off some serious vintage vibes so let's pair it with some classic stamps.
For this first card, I started with the fun and sassy "Lawd Have Mercy" stamp set. The sentiments on this one are so funny! I started by stamping her with a light brown Copic friendly ink.
Next I colored her in using Copics. Just her skin tones with a subtle blush.
After coloring her, I stamped her again using VersaFine Clair in Pinecone and used my heat gun to set the ink. Being that this image was stamped on ivory card stock, I used a white gel pen to fill in her eyes and teeth. You. can also use a gold pen and fill in the jewelry, but I opted to go a little simpler and leave it plain.
For the background, I stamped the new January 2023 BOM: Old News with that soft brown on the ivory card stock. I die cut it out using the stitched rectangle. I then measured cut black card stock at 3 3/4" by 5" and matted the stamped background. I then die cute another black piece of card stock using the scalloped rectangle.
I also die cut a flourish out of black card stock to adorn this classic beauty. I used a copper color rub-on wax to distress the flourish and the scalloped background. I then stamped the sentiment using VersaMark and used gold embossing powder to heat emboss it. All of these vintage layers, come together with this rusted color pallet.

How could I not pair this "Old News" background stamp with this vintage typewrite from "Our Blooming Story" stamp set. Using a similar layout, I started by stamping the new BOM on white card stock using grey ink. I then stamped the typewriter on white card stock with Copic friendly ink and colored the image in. I then restamped it using VersaFine ink and used clear embossing powder to add a little depth.
After fussy cutting the image out, I wanted to trim it so I used the Stitched Rectangle die. This made it more uniform when I layered it over the BOM that was also die cut using the same die cut. I stamped the sentiment and used white embossing powder to heat emboss it. I love this for a whimsical Valentine's Day card.
